sunday style//blue ballerina

Today was a little hectic at church because we are getting ready for our Primary Program.  Every year the Primary (children ages 3 - 11) has a program to show the congregation the things they've learned during the year up to this point.  They sing all the songs they've been practicing since the beginning of the year and each child has a speaking part.  It's a lot of work to put the program together and I am truly impressed with how well the rehearsal went today.  I know the Program will be great next week!

I was a little worn out after church today and changed out of my outfit as soon as I got home.  So the outfit in today's post is from a couple of Sundays ago.  I bought a new ballerina-style skirt from Sweet Salt, a vendor at the Time Out For Women event I attended in September.  It's just the right length, has a lot of layers & is lined.  I love this skirt.  I paired it with my lace top, shiny gold sweater (even though you can't tell from the pictures), and polka dot flats.  I love that this outfit is cute but not fussy.  It's something I will wear again and again.

How about you - what did you wear to church this week?  I'd love to see!  Leave a link in the comments.

sunday style//houndstooth

When I was a little girl, my grandpa would let me wear one of his hats.  It was made of thick, sturdy material but showed the softness of years of wear.  And it had a houndstooth pattern.  My grandma filmed my older sister and I sitting on her back porch eating big bites of bananas - and I was wearing that hat.  I loved houndstooth then and it's one of my favorite patterns to this day.

Today I wore my favorite dress.  It's covered in a houndstooth print and I got it for a steal of a deal at Target after stalking it on the sale rack.  I paired it with my favorite black sweater (that I probably wear too much), a skinny black belt & a chunky black necklace.

What's your favorite pattern?

sunday style//polka dots

I haven't done a Sunday Style post in a while - probably because I have been wearing outfits to church that I had already shared with ya'll.   I woke up this morning with a headache so the thought I put into today's outfit was slim to none.  But it's a new outfit to share :)  I grabbed my new-to-me thrifted skirt that is black with cream colored dots, a powder blue top from Urban Outfitters that I purchased last summer, my favorite black sweater &  nude heels.  I like to wear my skirts higher up on my waist for two reasons.  The first being that it gives my outfits more of a vintage feel.  It also works better for my body shape.  A skirt does not look all that great on me if it falls to my mid-calf.  I prefer that my skirts hit just below the knee instead for a more slimming look.

I showed up to church with my hair down & bangs pinned back but by the time it was over I had it pulled back into a ponytail.  The humidity and my hair don't like each other.

What did you wear to church?  I'd love to see!  Share your link in the comments.

sunday style//hint of nautical

I haven't done a Sunday Style post in a couple of weeks because I am truly exhausted after church.  Some weeks, all I want to do is take off my heels so my feet will like me again.  And of course I need a nap because I stayed up way past my bedtime watching tv and cuddling on the couch with the Mr.  in an effort to soak up every bit of the weekend with him.

Today,  I paired my lace top with a navy pencil skirt I found while thrifting last week.  I topped off the outfit with a pair of nude heels, a sparkly gold cardigan and my favorite handmade necklace.  I love that the outfit felt a bit nautical and it is getting me super excited for our family trip to Virginia Beach this summer.

sunday style//plaid and waves

Last weekend, the Mr. & I squeezed a little shopping time into our busy schedule and I came home with a cute green plaid shirt from Old Navy's clearance section.  I never buy anything in green - ever.  But now I am officially in love with the color.  I paired my new top with my favorite thrifted red pencil skirt and thrifted tan heels.

I also fancied up a thrifted necklace by adding extra links in the back to add some length and then attached a skeleton key I purchased while on a family trip to Tombstone, Arizona to the front.  It's cute enough to wear to church and fun enough to wear during the week.

I like to get all gussied up for church each Sunday, it being the only day of the week I dress up and do my hair.  I was lucky enough to win a Jose Eber clipless curling iron from Rachel over at Smile And Wave recently.  It is amazing.  Truly.  I will never go back to using a regular curling iron again.  It took some getting used to as my new iron has no clamp on the barrel to hold the hair down.  Instead, a glove is included to wear on the hand you wrap your hair around the heated barrel with.  No more frazzled hair ends.  And I get beautiful waves of hair every time.  If you are in the market for a new curling iron, I give this one my full recommendation.  I know I didn't have to pay for mine, but it I think it's worth every penny.

**just pretend you don't see those ugly garbage cans in the back, okay??**

sunday style//yellow & lace

Today was a beautiful day.  After being under tornado watch just a couple of days ago, the beautiful weather today was more than welcome.  I hope it stays for good.

As I was taking these outfit photos today, I asked myself why I even do this type of post on my blog.  It's not a fashion blog by any means.  Coming up with something different to wear every Sunday is quite a challenge considering the size of my wardrobe is very very small.  I am going to run out of outfits to post sooner rather than later.  But it stretches this blue jeans & t-shirt wearin' mama to come up with something cute to wear once a week. And I like that :)

skirt: thrifted
necklace: handmade by yours truly

So I want to know..... do you have a small wardrobe?  How do you switch things up so your wardrobe feels fresh?

sunday style//a little green

I pulled out a mossy green turtleneck to wear in honor of the holiday weekend.  It hasn't been worn it in ages.  I topped it with my favorite black sweater (that I love so much I probably should have bought two), which was perfect for the cooler weather.   It's been rain, rain, rain all weekend and I wanted to wear something comfy and easy to church.  To be sure I didn't look too comfy though, I tucked in my top and wore houndstooth tights.

Tatum was so proud of her all brown outfit and wanted to show it off. Forget about green. It's all about the brown now.

And just for a little St. Patrick's Day luck, I wore the clover pin an old family friend gave me when I was in high school. It was a little something she brought back from a trip to Ireland and I've treasured it ever since.
